I don't know..but don't they seem kinda of bad moves? What does he do after 9/11? Starts war with Afganistan so he can wipe out Bin Ladin. Typicall Amercian thing to do when you think about it. But when that was failing..what did he do? Found an excuse to go to war with Iraq...weapons of mass destruction and liberating Iraq. Now that that is going down hill *where are the weapons...Iraq being unstable* what does he do? Say he wants an amendment that what to make gay marriage illegal. Does this guy want polictical sucided?! Whats next? Cutting out welfare and social serucity?! *which they are talking about* Boy would that be a death blow!
Thoughts anyone?

It's making Bush's constituency (that being the Religious "Right" and the rich-bitch oil companies) happy. The gay marriage thing is for Bush another Iraq ... as in: Wait! We're not succeeding with the current project! Quick, distraction time! Get the public riled about something else! That's what Saddam was. As much as anyone says that Saddam was an evil man (which he was, but the US has *supported* and *held in power* brutal dictators in the past) it wasn't his evil that made us depose him. The time for that would have been, oh, ten years ago, after he gassed the Kurds and invaded Kuwait. What's he done since then that makes him deserve US attention now? Nothing, except that he was a national leader and therefore easier to find than Bin Laden. And with the gay marriage thing, well, even if the amdendment goes through, I think we'll win in the end. Our country has a long history of discrimination, but our minorities have an equally long history of doing whatever it takes to surmount the difficulties placed in their way. The mayor of San Francisco is the Rosa Parks of the gay rights movement. And by the way, we're covering the integration of US schools right now in government, and most of the statements made by the pro-segregation forces are almost identical, down to the wording, as the statements made against gay marriage. "Activist judges," for example. The argument that discrimination is sanctioned by law (word-for-word, but too long to quote). The argument that giving more people their rights will somehow ruin the quality of life for everyone else (Someone please explain to me how gays getting married is going to hurt straight marriages? I still haven't figured that out. ) Anyway, that's my rant for the day. Omega, Valyn, feel free to comment, but let's not get as out-of-control as last time.

I'll ignore that last comment.
Anyway, I think you're pretty much right, HMage. What Bush is doing isn't political suicide unless things get out of hand. After all, Iraq was at least a partial success... we *did* catch Hussein, and he *is* out of power, and even if he hasn't done anything recently, that doesn't change the fact that he's not exactly Mother Teresa.
I think what Bush has done, rather than political suicide, has been political polarization. At first, back before 9/11, we weren't that enthusiastic about Bush, but most people weren't that strongly against him either. But now, with a lot of people, either you love him or you hate him, depending if you're liberal or conservative. It's harder to find a middle ground. Personally, I think he's gonna have a lot of karma to work out.

I'm thinking this is more of 1984 though.
Afganstan is our enemy...Iraq is our enemy.
Destory a langauge..it's a beautiful thing.

And there are enough crazy radical Christians in this country who are willing to believe that anyone and anything Muslim *is* our enemy, so that Bush has plenty of support.
